How we check a supplement

  • The right ingredient: one with human research for your goal, not just a trendy name.
  • The right dose: close to the amounts used in studies. Many products use a fraction of it.
  • Full disclosure: every amount listed. A “proprietary blend” hides how much you get.
  • Safe amounts: under the daily upper limits set by the National Academies.
  • Independent testing: a USP, NSF or Informed Choice seal means a lab checked what's inside.

Why third-party testing matters

In the US, supplements don't need FDA approval before they're sold, and the FDA doesn't check that labels are accurate. Independent testing programs like USP Verified, NSF Certified and Informed Choice buy products, test what's in them, and check for contaminants. It's the closest thing to a quality guarantee you can get.
